PROBLEM STATEMENT INTERNET CONNECTION IN MALAYSIA
PROBLEM STATEMENT
According to a 2012 report by Google, Malaysia was listed among
the slowest countries in the world for loading web pages on desktop computers
as well as mobile computers. Malaysia, has an average Web page loading speed on
desktops of 14.3 seconds. Malaysia was named the world’s fifth slowest, even
more plodding than the connection speeds of nations like Colombia, Argentina
and Peru. Despite the advertised high-speed internet, most users in Malaysia
experiencing either slow or good enough internet speed. Malaysia is the first
country which has the slowest internet connection that has 16% internet
connection below the speed of 256 kbps and 34% of internet connection has the
speed from 256 kbps to 2 mbps, which is very slow. This means 50% of Malaysian
is using slow internet connection. This speed of internet has caused the
efficiency of people whose work resolves around internet to decrease
drastically by 50%. To make the situation worse, people in Malaysia spent more
time loading page than time surfing the internet. Although fast speed of
internet is one of the criteria in vision 2020, which Malaysia is proceeding
to, but today Malaysia is listed among the top 10 countries that has the
slowest internet speed after Indonesia and Kazakhstan at the 8th and 9th place
respectively. In Malaysia, the speed of internet connection is very slow especially in rural area. This cause the villagers are not exposed to the technology. Malaysia topped four out of five categories—differentiated by
network speeds—covering Ethernet broadband monthly rental and installation
costs. It was the second highest in the fifth category, revealed the study. In Malaysia,
when it comes to internet speed, you get what you pay for. Expensive and
affordable price burdened students and officer workers, therefore, they tend to
pay the cheaper prince. Hence, they receiving slow internet speed. This
show that Malaysia has the slowest internet connection. This problem need to be
solved now and immediately. This is because to increase the efficiency of
people working around internet everyday for example the government. Besides, to
increase and improve the reputation of Malaysia so that people will know us
(Malaysia) by having the fastest internet connection instead of the slowest
internet connection. By having fast internet connection, it will increase the
work productivity as people able to do their work effectively and efficiently
without any internet connection problem. So, it is vital for the internet
connection to be improved as it contributes a lot to society and one’s life.
